In June, the DEA missed it's self-imposed deadline for announcing it's decision on the rescheduling of Cannabis. Currently it's in schedule 1, cozying up to Heroin and other drugs the DEA deems lacking a decent excuse for existing - specifically, in this case, lacking a legitimate medical use. (Hear that medical cannabis users?).
While the most desirable change would, of course, have been descheduling it completely, it was considered most likely that it would be moved into Schedule 2. While a huge change which many users and activist consider a big step forward, allowing legal cannabis business' the luxury of banking and other niceties, it also moves pot into unknown territory, where it is subject to a new list of restrictions and requirements.
Then comes the news that our DEA is announcing that it is shining on making a decision at all, leaving cannabis' legal status unchanged, and the current legal situation as well. Cannabis, says the DEA, has no legitimate medical application... Hrrrmf...
But wait! There's more! Now Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton has said she will, (IF we elect her president), reschedule cannabis to Schedule 2!
Is this, as some have said, a gift from President Obama to Hillary's war chest? Is the DEA's deferred decision a last minute Hail Mary pass from this administration to the next, seeking to give Clinton a clear dash into the end zone? Trump has said that medical AND recreational marijuana is over if he's elected, so this seems designed to make up the minds of cannabis using voters for them - although probably many of these started out backing Bernie Sanders, who made his policy steps on Cannabis public knowlege many months ago.
So here we are, manipulated again.
Staring at the card being forced on us and facing a choice typical of American Presidential elections... The decision might not be as dire as deciding whether to vote for Caligula or Joffry Baratheon, but it sure doesn't feel like free choice.
